Illinois Sheriffs Assault Weapons Ban
In Illinois, a bill was introduced in 2013 by State Senator Dan Kotowski to ban the possession, delivery, sale, and purchase of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. The bill was not passed. However, local sheriffs can use their discretion to refuse to issue a FOID card to an individual that they believe poses a threat to themselves or the public.
